It’s not everyday that I you get to have a real life hero in your house. When I booked Sherri’s headshot I almost passed out from happiness- she’s amazingly stunning, right?! I had no idea that this was only a small part of the story she’d bring on a foggy Half Moon Bay evening.
The thing about Ms. Sherri is that she’s the greatest force of love I’ve ever known. She’s the fierce mama bear. She’s larger than life. She’s the stuff of shooting stars and the most impassioned little boy’s wishes.
My son, new in kindergarten and trying to learn the ropes, never was more than an arms reach from this love. Sherri took him outside and they searched for birds when the little dude was having a rough day. They fed seagulls. He got a needed hug. He sat in her lap and said she was beautiful, just like his mom. I don’t pretend to have more than a glimmer of her beauty but I think he saw the devotion; she had his back as much as I did.
When she showed up for her shoot she brought her son. Mine joined as well as my little bird, who has befriended her earlier in the year. It took me a long time to edit the photos from this session as I kept getting choked up.
I don’t know if she’ll ever understand how many little worlds she set into orbit. All I hope is that I can be there for my guy, like she has been. I want to be taking those shots she got with her son in 23 short years, coming way too fast. Take a look— you’ll see what I mean, you’ll see everything that she is.
And please, everyone, know that you too can literally build these worlds for our children. There is nothing more powerful in the universe than our ability to listen, take time, and love in spite of it all.
Thank you, Sherri. My gratitude is beyond words.
